When people fail at social media marketing, it’s typically because they’re doing one or more of things mentioned below. Social media marketing works but it does require patience, consistency, and an understanding of how to be social. Here’s how to fail at social media marketing:

  1. Don’t fill out your About section/profile: You’re missing out on sales opportunities when you don’t complete your About section. Be sure to do everything from adding your phone number, website, to even writing out a clear description that helps convey what you do.

  2. Don’t respond to comments and direct messages: You don’t ever want to leave people hanging when they’ve taken the time and effort to reach to you. Whether someone has commented on a post or asked you a question via direct messenger, always respond. Being social on social media increases brand loyalty. It may not seem like much but your followers will love you even more when you show that you care.

  3. Post content that has nothing to do with your brand: Always stay true to your brand! We can’t stress this enough. If you’re focused on helping business owners save money on taxes, don’t post a cat meme that talks about tacos. Stick to sharing content that helps people solve problems that you’re best at solving.

  4. Don’t post consistently: You’re sure to grow over time when you post regularly to your social media accounts. Stick to schedule so your followers know they can count on you. Whether that’s three times a week, seven times a week, or more, be consistent. You’ll be able to be consistent by planning for success.
