With the arrival of new social media networks, it can be tempting to immediately create accounts for your business to grow online. After all, it seems like everyone else is using recent apps like Clubhouse and TikTok! Should you be trying to be active on new platforms that aren’t Facebook and Twitter? Is it worth your time and effort?
We’ll be covering these questions and more in this blog post. Our hope is that we’ll save you time and money as you do everything you can to scale your business.
Who is my target audience and where is their attention?
Let’s start with identifying your target audience. Who is your ideal customer or perfect client? What does their budget look like when it comes to spending money on services and products from the industry you’re in? Do you know where they’re giving their attention?
You need to be able to answer these questions to identify which social platforms you should be active on. Knowing where your ideal customer socializes online will help you create a more informed marketing strategy and be more efficient with your resources. You’re less likely to waste time on a platform that doesn't captivate your audience.
Hang out and observe
Once you’ve identified a social network that has the attention of your target market, create an account. Start navigating the social network as a user. Find out which types of content perform the best. Figure out who the influencers are in your industry. Take time to observe and analyze what’s going on as well as the language used on the platform. Each social network from LinkedIn to Pinterest has its own vibe and internal culture.
Engage and test
Start posting as a user and engaging with content from others after you’ve taken some time to observe. You’ll learn the steps required to share content on the social network. You will also learn to how interact with other users and brands. Doing all of this will also give you a chance to know what is possible on the social media network you’re interested in using to grow your brand.
Here are different social media tactics you can test depending on the capabilities of the platform:
Ratio of video posts to text posts
Frequency of posts per day
Frequency of posts per week
Sharing original content vs. user-generated content
If you have an idea you want to test out, go for it! You won’t know if it works until you try it out.
Be consistent and give yourself time
Now that you’ve been putting in the work, post great content on a regular basis! You will give yourself a chance to figure out what works while collecting quality data. Data will help you make informed decisions regarding your social media strategy. Be patient and know that you’ll have better results with consistency. It’s tough to hit your goals when you give up.
