You’re not alone if you feel like your marketing efforts aren’t the most innovative. It can be tough trying to generate buzz and excitement around your business if you’ve been running in circles with your ideas. If you’re in a funk when it comes to creativity, here are a few ways to improve:
Tips to generate creative marketing solutions for your business
Block off time to play: According to Einstein, creativity is intelligence having fun. Our ability to adapt and find new ways to solve problems is related to our ability to be creative. When we play, we’re actually problem-solving while having fun. This can happen in various activities from participating in sports to enjoying board games with friends. Our brains have an easier time innovating when we’re relaxed.
If you’re feeling stressed while working on a project, take time to go for a walk. You could even block off ten minutes to play a video game or practice a musical instrument. Intentional time for fun means more opportunities for innovation.
Study the marketing efforts of businesses in a different industry who have the same ideal customer: There’s a lot to learn from other brands who target the same audience you do. Learn from the businesses who aren’t in your industry. Doing so will teach you new ways to connect with your dream client/customer.
For example, movie theaters wanting to attract more people in their early 20s can learn from Fortnite as to how they can better reach the Gen Z population. Tax accountants who want to work with Millennials can study what Robinhood is doing to educate and retain their users. Real estate agents wanting to help Boomers acquire investment properties can research how Applebee’s keeps Boomers coming back with their senior discount.
Figure out ways to break the rules of your industry: What are the restrictions or ways your industry operates? How can you break those rules in the businesses in your industry or find ways around them? This was the case with Netflix being the cause of Blockbuster’s demise. On-demand digital entertainment killed the need for rewinding VHS tapes and having to drive to a physical location to pick a movie.
Think about what’s limiting your customers and clients from receiving the most value from your business and break it.
Innovation can be a bit of a challenge but with the right mindset, you can increase your company’s creativity! Keep asking questions and challenging what you’re currently doing. It’ll help you fine tune your marketing strategy and continue to improve the strength of your brand.
