Let me start by saying that if you've ever made someone cry, I hope it's the result of one of the following:
- You told a super funny joke
- You performed a sincere act of kindness
- Something similar to the aforementioned scenarios
I spent the last several days in Las Vegas at the ASD trade show pitching the IllumiBowl to various retailers from all over the world including American Samoa, Canada and Oregon. Store owners and distributors attending the show represented various demographics and they were all focused on providing value for their customers.
One man in particular whom I'll name Joe in this article to protect his privacy stopped by on the very first day at my booth. I went through my pitch explaining how the IllumiBowl works to Joe who is in his mid-60's. I told him about how a care home in the United Kingdom installed toilet night lights helping care home residents reduce night-time falls significantly. He took an order form from me then told me he'd be back later to place an order.
On the last day of the trade show, Joe returned to place his order. He started to explain how he works as a senior real estate agent and also runs a store in a senior community where most of his friends and neighbors are 70+. He told me how falls in his neighborhood have resulted in the deaths of his friends and other close associates.
As Joe shared what his happening in his neighborhood, he became emotional as told me how the IllumiBowl will help his neighborhood be able to see where they're going at night. Joe worked to hold back his emotion as he filled out the order form to bring IllumiBowls to his senior neighborhood.
Now you're asking, "What was the point of this story?". The purpose of me sharing this story is that sometimes you're unaware of the value you are bringing to this world. All of us have something to offer. Through my marketing skills, I get to help people like Joe know that it is possible to make safely to and from the bathroom every night. I've met people who have thought the IllumiBowl is hilarious. I've met people who love how the IllumiBowl helps their kid be potty trained. Until Joe, I've never met anyone determined to use the IllumiBowl as a tool out of genuine concern for the safety and wellbeing of his friends.
